Caterpillar has introduced a new generation of CAT loading machine designs, initially featured in the 980 and 982 models, now extended to the 950-982 series. These advancements bring cutting-edge technology to enhance productivity, reduce maintenance costs, and improve fuel efficiency. Caterpillar has announced several technical optimizations and performance improvements, further elevating efficiency and operational ease.
Exceptional Performance
The new front automatic differential lock is available for all 950-972 models with joystick steering and all 966-972 models with HMU (steering wheel) steering. This feature automatically engages the differential lock to restore or maintain traction, reducing the operator’s workload. Additionally, upgrades for both front and rear automatic differential locks are available.
These medium-sized CAT loading machines feature an enhanced Integrated Brake System (IBS) and a new engine speed deceleration device. The new transmission neutral function allows smooth engagement and disengagement via the IBS pedal.
Comprehensive Technical Optimization
The new generation of CAT loading machines is equipped with a range of technologies to help operators optimize machine usage. Improved and expanded wheel loader technology products assist operators in boosting machine productivity.
Standard new work assist widgets automatically position the bucket at the optimal height to maintain stability and maximize material retention, aiding operators in loading and handling tasks. The zero-angle work tool widget has been enhanced and now connects to the work tool center, supporting different zero-angle settings for various work tools and attachments.
Three programmable buttons on the tool control box provide quicker access to frequently used functions, enhancing operational efficiency. Each operator can customize and save personal settings with over 25 different functions.
Key operational features, including Cat Payload, manual dumping, neutralizer settings and prompts, and application profiles, are now available on the onboard display system for quick reference and operator training. The new electronic ticket option in Cat Advanced Payload sends generated onboard weighing tickets to any preset email address within seconds of completing a load cycle, reducing the need for paper tickets in the cab.
For the Cat 966 XE, 972 XE, 980 XE, and 982 XE models, each operator can utilize two new settings in the application profile to set default forward/reverse speed ranges and rim pull limits. Operators can now view speed and rim pull setting limits on the front dashboard. Additionally, set site limits are displayed on the operator settings screen to inform operators of the set upper limits.
Enhanced Reliability
The optional new tire pressure measurement system is fully integrated into the machine system, displaying tire pressure on the main machine screen. This allows operators to monitor tire pressure, improving performance, enhancing driving conditions, and reducing costs. Sensors wirelessly transmit pressure information to the system, and the target pressure can be adjusted based on tire type, manufacturer, and model.
Cat Remote Flash and Remote Troubleshooting are standard features. Software updates can now be installed directly from the onboard display. The dealer remote troubleshooting feature has been expanded to include machine usage histograms and system calibration. Preventive maintenance cycle tracking data can now be synchronized via VisionLink®, with due reminders and overdue events displayed to the operator.
Operational Convenience
The new left footrest is standard in the ultra-deluxe cab and optional in the comfort and deluxe cab series, enhancing operator comfort. It allows easy movement to the IBS pedal in power shift loader models and to the deceleration pedal in XE models. Additionally, for all XE models, the speed range thumbwheel now includes tactile stops, supporting precision selection between 0.1 and 1.0 increments.
For 2-tool and 3-tool hydraulic functions, new side-handle tool joysticks are now available on all joystick steering models to improve operator comfort. The optional activated carbon cab pre-filter design has been enhanced to protect the operator’s environment from dust and particles, making updates and upgrades easier.
